New Volunteer Orientation meetings will be schedule for the fall of 2026. Please watch for them in the fall.

CRISIS LINE VOLUNTEER
Crisis Line volunteers provide active listening, emotional support and community resources to people who are in crisis, depressed, suicidal, grieving, homeless, mentally ill, or looking for resources.
A 54-hour training program prepares new volunteers to answer our 24-hour crisis lines and our information & referral line. We provide additional in-service trainings throughout the year. We have not yet finalized the dates of the next Call Center Training. The earliest possible start for the next training might be mid 2022. Once volunteers have completed the classroom training and the on-site mentored training in our call center, we ask volunteers to serve a 4-hour shift once a week for a year. This is our usual practice. To receive more information about serving in our call center and to learn about any alternative arrangements regarding volunteering in our call center, please register to attend a monthly Volunteer Orientation Meeting.

GRIEF GROUP FACILITATOR VOLUNTEER
Grief Group Facilitator volunteers provide active listening and emotional support to people who are grieving the death of a loved one and facilitate the group counseling support process with a co-facilitator. Groups meet for two hours and are provided once a week.
Grief Group Facilitator Volunteers must have completed a minimum of 12 months experience as a Call Center Volunteer or 200 hours of group facilitation experience. Additional training and in-services are required.

MOBILE GRIEF RESPONSE TEAM VOLUNTEER
Mobile Grief Response Team volunteers provide active listening and emotional support at a school, community organization, or business following an unexpected death. The team provides age appropriate crisis counseling and grief counseling services on site.
Mobile Grief Response Team volunteers must have completed a minimum of 12 months experience as a Call Center Volunteer. Additional training and in-services are required.

OUTREACH AMBASSADOR VOLUNTEER
Outreach Ambassadors represent our agency at community events.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES & SPECIAL PROJECTS
We welcome students, service groups, retirees and anyone passionate about mental health. Whether you can spend 4 hours a month or up to 20 hours a week, we have admin duties, data entry, and special projects (such as painting, handyman work, technology and website updates, etc.) for you. Join us is supporting the Contra Costa community! Whether you are an individual or student group, retiree, or working professional, we are looking for volunteers to perform administrative duties, table outreach events and work on special projects around the Crisis Center.
No prior experience needed for these volunteer positions. All we ask is that you have a passion for the community and its mental health well-being!
Interested in a more in-depth experience with the mental health field? We also are recruiting for call center and grief volunteers (21 + please) who will complete a program-specific orientation and training, background screening, agree to a volunteer term of one year, and adhere to our ethics and confidentiality policies. We are open 24/7 to cater to your schedule.
