“Around the time her husband told her that he wanted a divorce, she was warned by her doctor about possible recurrent cancer. There were tests to be done, but she wanted to take her own life. When she started having second thoughts, she called us. We listened and counseled her – then followed-up with her for two weeks after, to make sure she is safe. ”

“A mother was struggling with her child’s condition. The little boy was diagnosed with autism and their life was becoming unbearable, as he was not being accepted in any programs. As soon as she called, we offered new information and found a good program for her son. She was at peace and happy that someone finally helped her.”

After months of part-time work, a man found a good job, but six days before his first paycheck, he got evicted and also required surgery. Once released from the hospital, he had nowhere to go and slept in his car. A nurse called us and shared the man’s story. Through our grant funds, we helped him sleep at a motel until his crisis was over.

Financial and marital issues led a middle-aged man to take his gun, get in his car and write a farewell letter to his family. He called us because he was having second thoughts. Our crisis counselor talked with him for 90 minutes and the man agreed to go see his children, then call back. He kept his word. The same counselor talked with him for another hour, until the man was safe and convinced to give up on his suicidal thoughts.

After being molested by her father and abused by her ex-husband, a 25 year old mother wanted to end hers and her baby’s life – so that her child wouldn’t have to risk growing up the same way she did. She called us, but didn’t want to share her name or location. Our counselor started a trace and found her whereabouts. The woman received help and called back six weeks later, grateful for the support we provided.
